“That is why I fled… I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.”
— Jonah 4:2
God is gracious and compassionate slow to anger and abounding in love.
If God were to give humans the authority to forgive and save others, they would likely show favoritism choosing friends, family, or those they personally like. Because of their sinful nature, people are not capable of being completely just or impartial. When someone is given power or authority, their behavior often changes, and pride can easily take root. This makes it difficult for anyone to handle such responsibility without being corrupted by it. For this reason, we cannot place our hope in human beings to hold ultimate authority.
It is a wise decision to abandon false hope in human beings. No person can match the grace and compassion of our Lord Jesus. He is without sin, and His heart is pure. We can place our full trust in Him, because God the father has given Him all authority.
“Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.”
Ephesians 1:20–22
Every person has a sinful heart, and this fallen nature makes it impossible for us to fully obey God’s commands. We naturally struggle with tendencies like seeking revenge and holding onto bitterness. When someone deeply hurts us, the idea of forgiving them can feel unfair or even impossible.
Think of someone who has hurt you so deeply that forgiveness feels impossible. The pain they caused runs deep, and letting go seems out of reach.
Now, turn the table and realize that we are the ones who have hurt God. We wounded His heart when we rejected His Son, Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for our sins.
Yet, despite our rebellion and sin, God still offers us forgiveness not because we deserve it, but because He is truly gracious, merciful, and full of compassion.
So if you’re placing your hope in a human being to free you from your sins and lead you to the true and living God abandon that hope. This is my challenge that all the individual claims are false. Every has failed to reach the holiness of Jesus. His holiness is absolute and without exception. No person can carry the weight of your salvation. Only Jesus can. Unrealistic hope on the false prophet can lead to eternal suffering. Identifying false and true prophets is each person responsibility. Do not form perceptions without first seeking the truth and Jesus is truth.
When you believe in Him, you come to know Him not just in thought, but in a personal and living way. He doesn’t ask for complicated rituals or religious performances. What He desires is your heart.
