The Power of Speaking the Truth, No Matter the Cost

The loss of Charlie Kirk, a passionate believer who was tragically shot while speaking at a university in Utah. I recognize the courage and boldness he showed in standing for his beliefs, even at great personal risk.
In our world today, standing for truth can often feel like a dangerous endeavor. But as we will see, from the pages of Scripture to the events of our own time, history is full of men and women who faced persecution, opposition, and even death because they dared to speak the truth because they lived in a way that was consistent with their beliefs, regardless of the cost.
While we mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk, we can also honor the legacy he leaves behind a legacy of standing firm, of speaking truth boldly, even in the face of opposition. He is, in a sense, a modern-day example of what it means to be a hero in the kingdom of God, though his life and message may have been controversial for some.
The ultimate hero: Jesus Christ. Our Savior was not only the embodiment of truth, but He paid the ultimate price for it. He was crucified for speaking truth that challenged the religious leaders of His time and threatened the powers that be. He was not assassinated as a political figure, but He was executed for claiming to be the Son of God and for calling others to a radical love and repentance.
In John 18:37, Jesus tells Pilate, “For this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
