Faith Through Loss: How John Continued to Trust God

A Grandmother’s Faith That Shaped a Life
John grew up watching his grandmother live out her faith every day. Each morning she opened her Bible, prayed quietly, and thanked God for another day. Because of her gentle spirit and steady trust in Christ, John learned early that faith was not just something spoken in church it was something lived daily.
Often, John sat beside her while she read Scripture. She explained Bible stories with patience and love. More importantly, she showed him how to trust God during both joyful and difficult moments. She would often say, “No matter what happens in life, always keep your faith in Jesus.”
When Grief Entered John’s Life
However, life changed suddenly when John’s grandmother passed away. Her absence left a deep emptiness in his heart. The house felt quieter, and the person who had prayed for him daily was no longer there.
At first, John struggled with sadness and confusion. Why would God allow someone so loving to leave so soon? These questions weighed heavily on him. Yet even in grief, the lessons his grandmother taught him began to guide his thoughts.
Finding Comfort in God’s Word
Gradually, John turned back to the Bible his grandmother loved so much. As he read, one verse spoke directly to his heart:
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 (KJV)

Through this promise, John realized that God had not abandoned him. Instead, God remained close, especially in moments of sorrow.
Faith That Continues Forward
Today, John still misses his grandmother deeply. Nevertheless, her faith continues to influence his life. Because of her example, he now prays more often, reads Scripture regularly, and encourages others to trust God.
Although grief remains part of his story, hope has become stronger. After all, the faith his grandmother shared did not end with her life it continues through John. And through Christ, he believes that one day they will meet again.
